Mysterious “energy balls” in the sky. You’d better close your windows to them. [WIDEO]

Poland is experiencing a summer heatwave with rain and storms. One of the most effective elements of this phenomenon is electrical discharge. However, apart from the well-known “ordinary” lightning, the mysterious phenomenon of ball lightning can sometimes appear.

Where does ball lightning come from?

Ball lightning is nothing more than a glowing ball moving in a horizontal plane. Its movements are accompanied by a sound effect resembling a hiss or a roar.

New light was shed on this phenomenon in 2012 by Chinese scientists. The researchers were observing a normal storm when, after a strong lightning strike, ball lightning appeared about 900 meters away from the instrument. The equipment recorded its radiation range, called a band. Analysis revealed that the phenomenon is the result of the combustion of vaporized material from the soil during a strike of “normal lightning.” The Chinese concept, for example, does not explain the high-altitude origin of ball lightning.

How to behave if ball lightning flew into the apartment?

Ball lightning has struck houses on several occasions. The most famous case was that of the last Tsar, Nicholas II, who saw ball lightning in his bedroom. Physicist Georg Wilhelm Richmann observed a similar phenomenon and even died from contact with it.

During a thunderstorm, you should take normal precautions to avoid encountering ball lightning. It is worth avoiding being outdoors, standing near trees and metal structures. If you are at home, close all doors and windows. Then the risk of being struck by lightning drops to almost zero.

Being struck by lightning can have tragic consequences. Burns, confusion, and convulsions are the mildest symptoms. In extreme cases, such contact can be fatal.
