Last Monday, the closing day of the Olympic Games in Paris, the Minister of Sports sent a letter, among other things, to: the President of the Polish Olympic Committee Radosław Bicewicz. He requested a list of the names of all the persons who received accreditation for the Games and the names of the presidents and board members of the Polish sports federations who went to Paris.
“We will explain every case of negligence reported by athletes. There were too many references to the absence of coaches and physiotherapists or lack of equipment. We will start by identifying who and in what capacity participated in the Games for public money,” Sławomir Nitras wrote on social media.
Polish Olympic Committee President Refuses to Accept Nitras
The head of the Sports Ministry gave Bicewicz two days to respond. The letter from the Polish Olympic Committee arrived, but it was not at all what Nietras expected.
“I would like to inform and clarify that the Polish Olympic Committee will not provide you with such information. It is not the task of the Polish Olympic Committee to remind the Minister that he, the Minister responsible for physical culture and sport, as a state administrative body according to the provisions of the Code of Administrative Procedure, must act in accordance with the provisions of the law,” we read in the letter of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, obtained by Onet. Piesiewicz stressed that there is no provision in the general law that gives the Minister of Sport, as a state administrative body, the right to request the information referred to in the letter. He recalled that in relation to the Polish Olympic Committee, NETRAS does not act as a supervisory body within the meaning of the provisions of the Code of Sports, and noted that this is clear even from the content of the letter addressed to him, in which the Minister did not refer to any legal basis.
Besiewicz called on Netras to stop violating the law.
According to Pisewicz, the accreditation of the Games is the exclusive competence of the IOC and the Polish Olympic Committee. He also stressed in the letter that he did not receive any funds from the state budget for the participation of Polish Olympians in the Games.
In conclusion, the Minister of Sports called for an end to violations of the law. “The date of stay at the Olympic Games, the address of the residence, the type of accreditation obtained, as well as the dates of stay of individuals in the Olympic Village cannot be the subject of your concern. Continuation of this type of behavior will have to be recognized as a gross violation of the law and an infringement of the rights arising from legal provisions.” – he warned.
