– We are constantly developing, which is why our appetite for further acquisitions does not decrease. We are analyzing all the possibilities in Poland and abroad that will be beneficial for us in terms of business and will allow us to obtain synergies, said CEO Daniel Opajtec, in an interview with PAP Biznes.
– We receive many investment proposals from major entities from other countries and carefully analyze each of them. We are always interested in investing in what is beneficial for us in terms of business. He added, “In the future, we do not rule out expanding our portfolio, also in the field of refining.”
Report it to the president Orlen Group’s capital expenditures in 2024 will exceed the planned level for this year of about PLN 36 billion.
It’s Pulawy time?
This year, total investment spending will amount to about PLN 36 billion. This amount will increase next year. Orlin is currently analyzing the possibility of Zakadi Azotoi Boutaoui taking over. President Obajtek sees a number of potential benefits in this deal.
– We will make the final decision in this matter after a thorough examination of the situation of the Puławy company. However, we already see a number of synergies with the group’s plant in Włocławek, the use of which will increase our efficiency and competitiveness in the European fertilizer market. These are operational synergies and cost reductions in logistics, sales, innovation and procurement, he said.
– For the fertilizer industry to be stable, it must be balanced. This is beneficial not only for business, but above all for the Polish economy, especially for agriculture. The concept of merging fertilizer plants dates back at least to the 1990s, and in 2010, too, there was an opportunity that was not taken. Although talks progressed, consolidation did not happen. He added that today we are returning to the concept of merging the leaders of the nitrogen fertilizer market in Poland, with Orlen being the initiator of this process.

German shopping in question
Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek assures that the purchase of the German Schwedt refinery by the Płock concern will be possible if the ownership issues in this company are resolved.
– No decisions have been made regarding the Schwedt refinery. For the time being, we are watching how ownership issues will be resolved, because we do not intend to enter into any relations with investors from the East. President Obajtek said that this is an issue that the German side must solve.
The Schwedt refinery can process 12 million tons of crude oil per year, for example for gasoline, diesel oil, heating oils, liquefied gas, jet fuel and energy (electricity and steam). It supplies the northeastern German market, including Berlin. Part of the crude oil processed there goes to western Poland.

The refinery in Schwedt, on the border with Poland, has so far processed mainly Russian oil from the Friendship pipeline. After the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions on Russian oil in the European Union, the future of this plant was in doubt.
According to information on the website of the refinery in Schwedt, Rosneft Deutschland owns 37.5 percent. Of the shares, AET (Rosneft Refining & Marketing and ENI Deutschland) 25 percent, Shell Deutschland Oil 37.5 percent.

– We can already assume that we have secured five new licenses in the Baltic Sea with a total planned capacity of 5.2 GW. We are just waiting for final confirmation on this matter. At the same time, we are carrying out the Baltic Power project and building the installation port in Świnoujście.
