Philippe Coutinho’s adventure with FC Barcelona turned out to be futile. The Brazilian international went to the Camp Nou in January 2018 for 135 million euros from Liverpool, but during his stay with the Blaugrana he managed to play 106 matches, in which he scored only 25 goals and provided 14 assists. Meanwhile, Coutinho was still on loan to Bayern Munich, with whom he won the Champions League in 2020, but after returning to the Catalan capital, he was disappointed. In addition, he suffered injuries and for a long time it was decided that he was leaving the club.
Barcelona wanted to get rid of the 29-year-old midfielder, whose salary was burdening the club’s already strained budget. Despite a trial for Coutinho, among other things to Flamengo, where Paulo Sousa became his coach, he finally arrived in Birmingham, where he will play with Aston Villa on loan for the next six months.
“The deal also includes a purchase option, and Philip will travel to Birmingham within the next 48 hours,” the official announcement said.
Thus, Coutinho will join Polish actor Mate Kach, who has great confidence in the eyes of coach Stefan Gerrard. Interestingly, Coutinho returns after a four-year hiatus to the British Isles, where he previously managed to represent the colors of Liverpool, in which he played, among other things, with the current captain from Villa Park.
