Phone stolen? Don’t panic. Check what to do next

There are many ways to protect your phone from theft. However, as it turns out, stealing a phone is not a difficult task at all for a thief. It is often easier by the smartphone owners themselves. This is mainly due to their inattention and absent-mindedness. What to do to prevent potential threats?

First, avoid keeping your phone in your back pocket or in the open pocket of your jacket or coat. When you visit a restaurant or bar, do not leave it directly on the table. This behavior makes the smartphone an easy target for a thief who can easily access it and escape.

The device itself can simply slip out of your back pocket while walking. It’s wise to carry your phone in your front pocket or in a special pocket in your backpack or purse. It is also a good idea to use a special lanyard that can be attached to a phone case, or to a jeans belt loop, for example.

It’s also important to secure your phone with a password, PIN, or fingerprint. When creating a PIN, it’s a good idea to avoid the simplest combinations like 1234, which is a thief’s first choice when trying to unlock a device. Many people decide to unlock their phones with their fingerprint. However, modern smartphones have another option, which is security using Face ID. It works similarly to a fingerprint, but the owner’s face must be recognized to unlock it.

If your phone is lost or stolen, it is useful to know your phone’s IMEI number. It is set individually for each device. To get it, dial the following character combination on your phone: *#06#. Providing the device’s IMEI number is one way to prove that a particular smartphone is yours.

If your phone is stolen, it is necessary to separate the debit and credit cards stored in it.

Don’t forget the ability to track your phone. Monitoring your device’s location can help you find it quickly. Plus, this option is free, so it’s worth using.

Android phone owners face an easier task if their phones are stolen or lost. The vast majority of them activate Google services on the device and thus automatically activate the device location option [usługa Znajdź moje urządzenie].

By logging into your account from your computer, you can easily locate devices connected to your account. It is worth noting that for this function to work, the site must be running on the device. This way you can quickly find your smartphone.

The option to locate the phone via the Google service allows additional actions. With your Google Account, you can:

  • Play the audio for 5 minutes at maximum volume – This function works even when the phone is previously switched off or completely silent,
  • Lock the device – The user can lock the device remotely, and to unlock it it will be necessary to enter the PIN, and the code itself can also be set remotely; More importantly, it is possible to display a message on the phone screen containing information about the owner or a contact number to call to return the device.
  • Erase data – One of the most useful functions that can be used remotely; By running this solution, all data saved on the phone, such as phone numbers or photos taken with the device, is deleted; However, it should be noted that this also deletes the account settings, so the device will no longer exist.

Losing or having your phone stolen can be annoying and can lead to a whole host of other problems. That’s why many manufacturers offer their own features that allow you to track devices. The situation is no different in the case of the famous Samsung phones and the “Find My Phone” service.

The first step you need to take is to go to the Samsung website, log in to your account and go to the Find your device option. The condition for locating it is that it is active – this means that the phone cannot be turned off.

The options on Samsung’s website allow you to perform several basic actions on your smartphone. The user has the opportunity to do the following:

  • call your phone,
  • block it,
  • locate it,
  • Delete all data from the device,
  • Create a data backup,
  • download calls and messages,
  • Unlock your phone.

Apple iPhones running iOS have a built-in Find app. Thanks to it, you can locate each device easily and with high accuracy. This is useful not only when it comes to phone theft, but also other brand devices such as iPod, Mac, and Apple Watch.

If the smartphone is stolen, the user can know its exact location using the iCloud website. This way it is possible to display its location on the map. And this is just one of the options iPhone owners can rely on. On the website, they can mark the stolen device as lost. This function will lock it with a code, thanks to which the data stored on it will remain safe.

Owners of devices running iOS 15 or later also have the option to remotely wipe all data from the device.
