For many, these good performances are a sign that Sony is preparing to announce a new version of the console. Indeed, all media reports indicate that we will soon be introduced to a new model called Slim. However, we can rather forget about the major changes in the appearance of the device …

We’re still dealing with the hallmark “fins” and the black plastic in between. Moreover, the dimensions of the console will not be much smaller than before, so the term Slim seems to be inaccurate.

An image of the new PS5 console has unexpectedly appeared on the forums A9VG. As you can see below, the whole thing is not significantly different from previous versions of consoles (both physical and digital). We’re still dealing with the hallmark “fins” and the black plastic in between. However, the clear cuts in the outer panels are striking. One of them will almost certainly be removable and you can plug in a Blu-ray drive instead. The cutout in the second “fin” is supposed to provide an outlet for hot air and to provide a more uniform look to the entire device.

As also reported by @BwE_Dev, the new PlayStation 5 console will likely be around 5cm shorter and only slightly thinner than current models. The term Slim doesn’t seem to fit the new Sony device. Furthermore, the USB-A jack appears to have disappeared from the front of the console – instead we have two USB-C ports. At the moment, of course, we’re not sure if the published image actually shows the console in its final version, but all the latest leaks on this matter have mainly pointed to the effect shown above. So we have to wait for the official announcement.

I’d say it’s about 5cm or so shorter, not much thinner. Weird curve in the middle with smaller holes. BD drive is less curved so it looks weird. It has two ugly black notches on each side of the case. Dual USB-C port on the front. Stupid embossed on the back.
