The Slovenians, who won the regular round and suffered only one defeat in 12 matches, qualified for the top four in the UEFA Nations League for the second time in history. But they lost to Japan in the semi-finals. For the second year in a row, they lost to this team in the knockout stage last year in Gdańsk, and the Asians knocked them out in the quarter-finals.
The Japanese performance improved significantly compared to last year when they won the first bronze medal in history.
The Slovenians have no records of this competition yet.
Earlier in the semi-finals, the French defeated the Poles after a tie-break. The Polish team will not be able to defend the title won last year in Gdańsk, but they still have a chance to win a fifth medal in this competition and a third bronze.
The Tricolors will have the chance to repeat the success of 2022, when they won the gold medal after beating the United States 3-2.
