The bronze medal in the Nations League that he won last year in Arlington was the first medal in the history of this competition won by Polish volleyball players. After a thrilling tie-break, they defeated the competition’s hosts, the Americans, and opened the long season in style. The Poles started this year’s edition of the UEFA Nations League brightly, winning outright in two tournaments, but their streak was broken on Wednesday. Let us remind you that the seven best teams after the continental round and the host team, i.e. the Thai team, will play in the final tournament of the Nations League in Bangkok. The Whites and Reds can already be sure of their participation in these competitions, because even if – in the worst case scenario – they lose the next three matches without points, and the results in the remaining matches are unfavorable, our team will not be eliminated from the group of promoted teams.
The Poles gained certainty by participating in the quarter-finals thanks to the results of Thursday’s matches. Only the Dutch and Canadians could threaten the position of the reds and whites. Thus, the first team lost to the Americans 0:3. In turn, the team of coach Shannon Wintzer beat the Japanese 3: 2, but will not be able to surpass the Whites and Reds in points, even with subsequent victories. The Dutch currently have 15 points and the Canadians 17, but they only have two games left to play. Even if they win it with all points, they will have one less point than the current Polish volleyball players.
The Polish teams will return to competition on Friday, when they will face the Dominican Republic (at 11 a.m. Polish time).
Straight from Hong Kong, after Sunday’s competition, the Whites and Reds will head to Bangkok. The final tournament will begin there next Thursday.
