Ralf Schumacher, former Formula 1 driver and brother of Michael, has been out.

“The most beautiful thing in life is to have the right partner by your side, with whom you share everything,” Schumacher wrote on social media, posting a photo of himself admiring the sunset in the arms of his partner, whom he had known for two years.

Congratulations from your son and friend

Until 2015, the former German driver was married to Cora, with whom he has a son named David. The 22-year-old wrote: “I am so happy that you have finally found someone with whom you feel comfortable and safe. I support you 100 percent, Dad, and wish you all the best and congratulations.”

German actress Carmen Geiss, the 49-year-old’s girlfriend, also commented on Schumacher’s decision to leave. She revealed that the driver’s former boyfriend’s name was Etienne.

“Ralph came out as gay. It was a liberation and self-acceptance for him. It was a brave decision that he had been maturing for a long time and he is now full of pride and confidence. His coming out is not only a personal triumph, but also a sign that he is finally able to live and love his true identity without fear or shame,” Jess wrote.

The only former Formula 1 driver to retire was the late Briton Mike Butler.

Schumacher won six races during his 11-year Formula 1 career. He left the prestigious racing series in 2007.
