The close encounter between Jupiter and Mars was visible in the sky on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. 24 correspondents were able to photograph the amazing conjunction between these two planets.
On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, Jupiter and Mars approached each other, i.e., a conjunction. The planets were aligned from the Earth’s perspective. This phenomenon can be easily observed in a clear night sky, as evidenced by the photos we received on Kontakt 24.
Jupiter Mars Conjunction
Although Jupiter and Mars appear to be very close together, they were actually 575 million kilometers apart, and they haven’t been this close in six years. As With Your Head in the Stars blog author Carol Wojcicki reports, the two planets were only 21 arc minutes apart, less than the average full moon.
The closest approach will occur on December 1, 2033, when the two planets will be separated by just 12 arc minutes.
The next opportunity will be in more than two years.
Since 2000, Jupiter and Mars have been in conjunction 11 times, the last time being two years ago. If anyone wants to see their next “meeting,” they should mark November 15, 2026 on their calendar.
