Gregor Dimitru will be competing with Hubert Hurkacz on Sunday in the 1/8 finals of the Grand Slam French Open in Paris. The 33-year-old Bulgarian tennis player, with whom the Pole scored 0-5, won on Saturday over Belgian Zizo Burgess 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4. A few hours ago, Hurkacz defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 6-1.
The Polish is the eighth seed, and Dimitrov – the tenth seed. Their match is scheduled to be their last at Suzanne Lenglen Indoor Stadium. They definitely won’t start before 5pm.
All of Hurkač’s meetings with the Bulgarian so far have been fierce. They have met once on clay – two years ago in the quarterfinals in Monte Carlo, where Dimitrov won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). Despite the unfavorable result, the 27-year-old from Wroclaw is not afraid of another confrontation.
-I look forward to the possibility of playing with him. This will be a breakout opportunity. The fact that I haven’t beaten any opponent is motivating for me. The Pole stressed on Saturday that you have to train to finally win against such opponents.
The 1/8 finals are Hurkacz’s best result at the French Open. He had reached this stage two years ago. Dimitrov has also not yet played in the quarter-finals in Paris.
