On Sunday, representatives of the Ministry of Sports finalized the details of Bortnichuk’s meeting with Infantino. The goal is clear – the FIFA coach is to support the call of the Poles, Sweden and the Czech Republic to exclude the Russian national team from the play-offs for the World Cup in Qatar.
Regardless of Bortnichuk’s visit to Switzerland, on Sunday FIFA will receive a firm and strong message from the Polish, Swedish and Czech football federations, categorically and resolutely demanding that the Russians be excluded from the World Cup play-off matches.
Conversations with Infantino will certainly not be easy, because Russia is an influential country in the structures of the World Federation, and it is no secret that the suspected acquaintance of Infantino with Vladimir Putin. However, the Poles, the Swedes and the Czechs will not go away.
The head of the Polish Football Association, Cesare Kuleza, and the players of the Polish national team launched, on Saturday, a contractual act called “Boycott of the Russian national team”. During the day, the Swedes also joined, and only on Sunday morning – after great pressure on the political level – The Czechs, who were also threatened with a match against Russia in Moscow, decided to do so.
