The Ukrainian military service reported that the Russian military lost another Ka-52 attack helicopter under unknown circumstances. This information was also reported by a source associated with the Russian Armed Forces. The loss of another such machine would be a serious blow to Moscow. The value of one copy of the helicopter is about 16 million dollars.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russians have lost several Ka-52 Alligator helicopters in various circumstances. According to the “military” this number reaches more than 40 pieces. The latest reports show that another helicopter should be added to the list of machines that will no longer fly. According to the Ukrainian service, the incident allegedly occurred on September 1. The Ka-52 suffered an in-flight failure, and the situation occurred in non-combat conditions.
Russia loses attack helicopters
The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator is one of three types of attack helicopters currently in use by Russia. It was created as an improved version of the Ka-50 and has been in mass production since 2008. The cockpit is two-seater, the pilots’ seats are placed side by side, and each has full control of the machine.
This solution works well for training flights (no need to create special training copies), but seats located next to each other increase the risk of death for both crew members in a helicopter collision. The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator is equipped with two improved TV3-117VMA turbofan engines and can fly even if one of them fails. Its curb weight is 7.7 tons, and the maximum speed is 302 km / h.

The helicopter’s armor can withstand 23 mm shell hits. Due to the rather rich armament, the machine is called “fire” or “devil’s chariot”. Its equipment includes a laser-guided AT-12 Wichr missile with an I-251W Shkwał targeting system, a Shipunov 2A42 30mm cannon and guided missiles. The cost of one copy of the Ka-52 is about 16 million US dollars, which is approximately 70 million Polish zlotys. So it can be said that the loss of each such machine is very expensive for Moscow.
