Netflix has prepared four Russian productions, including the crime series directed by Dasza uk, which became popular after the production of “Kryształ”. Work on the series was ongoing, and now it has been discontinued. Set in the 1990s, the series was supposed to be the first Netflix original series to be filmed in Russia. Another was the quote “Anna Karenina” based on the prose of Leo Tolstoy.
A source close to Netflix said the company is studying the situation. It will also decide on projects and the possibility of further cooperation on an ongoing basis.
Many Russian products can be seen on the platform, incl. Netflix at war with Russia?
As a reminder, as of Tuesday, March 1, Netflix must broadcast every speech by Vladimir Putin and top Russian government officials in Russia. The giant announced that due to the aggression against Ukraine, it will not add state-owned Russian TV channels to its platform, despite the provision provided by the Russian media organization Roskomnadzor.
“Given the current situation, we have no plans to add these channels to our service,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
It is not known how the platform wants to circumvent Russian law and what consequences the Kremlin will take against Netflix.
Netlix in Ukrainian dubbing
Netflix has prepared a special list of titles that younger people can watch with Ukrainian dubbing. The full list of addresses can be found here.
Among the selected productions are “Government Man: Back in the Game” (seasons 1–4), “The Umbrella Academy” (seasons 1–2) or “Jurassic Park: Kredowy Camp” (seasons 1) 4).
