Aryna Sabalenka is unsure whether she will compete in the main draw of the 2024 Wimbledon Grand Slam on Monday, as the Belarusian tennis player continues to struggle with injury.
Aryna Sabalenka has been complaining of a right shoulder injury since last week. Then she felt pain during the quarterfinal match at the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin with Anna Kalinska. The Belarusian did not finish the match with the Russian. She retired at 1:5 in the first set (more here). Such a situation (custody) happened to a tennis player from Minsk for the first time in her career.
On Saturday, Sabalenka appeared in a press conference before the start of the 2024 Wimbledon Grand Slam Championship, and the 26-year-old admitted that she was not sure whether she would start in the first round match against American Emina Bektas. This fight is scheduled to take place on Monday.
– Together with my staff, we are doing our best to make sure that I can play my first match here. She added: “But I’m not 100 percent ready now.”

The two-time Australian Open champion admitted she suffered an extremely rare injury. She said that the doctor told her that she was “the second or third tennis player to be diagnosed with a shoulder muscle injury.”
“The most annoying thing is that I can do anything on the court,” said the racket, currently ranked third in the world. “I can practice and hit the ball, but I have problems serving the ball.”
There is no doubt that the serve is one of Sabalenka’s main weapons. Improving this element of the game allowed her to really join the fight for higher goals and take her to the top of the world rankings.
-We did an MRI, we did everything. We have undergone a long rehabilitation and many procedures. There’s always a chance, right? I have never suffered any serious injuries in my career. “It’s really hard to deal with it while you’re trying to stay positive,” she said at a news conference.
