Released yesterday at 7:00 p.m.
Should we be surprised to see both of you in a film project like this? NorborgOn paper, what seems to be the farthest from your respective universes?
Maxim Xerox: Yes [rires] !
Simon Laoi: This is an evolution, a kind of emergence. We all love cinemas. It is true that we usually offer slightly improved films, but we also like quality American cinema and story cinema.
MG: Gus van Sand has always been a role model for me. He is able to go one way and the other without fear of going to extremes. Good Will Hunting Really touched people, and then he made movies like that Jerry Where Final days, These are completely opposite. He does his best to do everything he can, without losing his identity. I understand that people can see our presence Norborg, But it amazes me that filmmakers always want to make the same film, except those who are inspired by their own lives. Personally I do not see cinema like that.
The story also relates the rise of Vincent Lacroix (Fran்கois Arnaud), the mastermind of the biggest financial scandal in Quebec’s history, and former Security Commission investigator Eric Acelin (Vincent-Guilmotis). Will become the right hand of the swindler. Where did the idea for a film about the case come from? Norborg ?
SL: I had this idea a long time ago when a dealer asked me if it was commercially feasible if a topic came to my mind. But it was not fulfilled then. People think that Norborg A commissioned film, but no. This is a topic I came up with, which Réal Chabot is interested in [le producteur] And Maxim came later. I hope what happens Norborg Since all of my stories are compiled in the Quebec community, it connects with the themes I approached in other films. The Norfolk affair is more than a simple message. It had a vibrating echo and made a profound impact. The moral aspect of this story, the easy greed, the people jumping over the fence without punishment, are all fascinating. This is what happened to Eric Acelin, a civil servant who initially had a very orderly life.
MG: There is also the fact that Quebeckers have never seen this amount of fraud, and many of us have told ourselves that they could have been easily victimized by these two individuals. We saw it in the United States, but no one could have imagined that such a thing would happen here.
Simon, you’ve brought all the screenplays you’ve written so far to the screen yourself, sometimes as co – director. Why did you invite another filmmaker? Norborg ?
SL: I thought for a while that I could direct this film myself, but as the project progressed I thought it would be interesting to add another perspective that would be taken away by someone who is new to the subject by contributing its expertise and knowledge. . I felt that Maxim could take all this to another level. I called him when the script was finished, which means he has been involved for five or six years.
MG: For my part, in a project I have not started, it was nice to work with the most accurate view in terms of direction. The directing challenge was to bring the most complex, most complex story to the screen, with the least shooting schedule. This is an American style script that we have to produce within the parameters of Quebec cinema.
We all remember this story and the pictures of Vincent Lacroix leaving the court tragically after his sentence, but the truth is, he was released three years later and his accomplice Eric Aselin was never convicted. Those who are unfamiliar with the financial world watching your film, should understand that they are not better protected today against such scams? Or are they?
MG: That’s the thing. We want the audience to ask questions like this. Because you have to be more careful.
SL: Especially since today, everything has been dematerialized and the financial world is taking place in the virtual world. Then it becomes very brief. Fraudsters no longer have to break into a house and steal money. Related Facts Norborg It happened between 1998 and 2005. Since then, the number of scams has increased. We are now in cryptocurrency, more speculation, and bringing in new stories every day. Fraudsters will always find new ways to slip through the cracks. It is up to us to be vigilant, not to blindly hand over our personal funds without supervision.
MG: Many of Norfolk’s victims believed that their money was kept in a place managed by Caisse depot et Placement, and that the funds were not sold to Norfolk, although it was very easy to find. Today, we invest in virtual companies that do not speak directly to anyone.
SL: Furthermore, although the injuries inflicted by victims of assault are severe, the penalties do not appear to be equivalent to a crime. There are those who have really lost everything.
Are you happy with your film?
MG: Yes. Basically, I wanted to do this for the general public, which has never happened to me before. I would love to see this picture to remind you that this kind of fraud is possible with Cubs. We wanted to provide a useful movie with a good script and I think it works well. I’m so proud of it, I even think this is the first time I’ve said anything about a film of mine!
SL: I like pictures too. Maxim – and Sarah Mishra in the photo – were able to catch the spirit of the slightly dirty Montreal because we rarely see it in our cinema.
