Less than a week after the fatal accident, Nikki Pedersen underwent surgery in a hospital in the Danish city of Odense. Two surgeons dealt with a broken hip and pelvis of ZOOleszcz competitor GKM Grudziądz. They put a special plate and screws into the body of the three-time world champion.
As Pedersen reported on social media, metal pieces were placed in front of the pelvis to stabilize the fracture site. “The vessels and nerves are intact but the cartilage around the hip is damaged,” the 45-year-old said.
“The next eight weeks I can’t support my left leg and my weight. Then I will undergo further examinations and x-rays. They will show that all the bones are in place” – added the former world champion, who received positive information from paramedics.

“Doctors can’t predict the future, but with the right rehabilitation plan, my physical condition and a positive attitude, we can go a long way. I have a long process to recover from. However, I am positive. I prefer seeing the positives and the opportunities. From the limitations.”
On Sunday, ZOOleszcz player GKM Grudziądz will again be transferred to another hospital – Pedersen will go to the facility in Kolding, where he will be closer to home. At the moment, it is not clear how long the Dane will remain in the hospital.
