The fate of Unia Tarnów's participation in the National Speedway League has hung in the balance for a long time. Two days before the opening, the club provided information about the future.
For several weeks, Unia Tarnów activists have done everything they can to raise money for activities in the coming season. The club's financial problems are a result of Grupa Azoty's debts and the company's withdrawal from sponsorship of the club.
On March 15, activists from Tarnów announced that Unija would start in the league. But since Wednesday (March 27), the situation has changed several times. He almost announced the club's decision to withdraw from the competition.
Finally, the federation authorities announced on Thursday (March 28) that the team will participate in the National Motorcycle Racing League. The administration of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship decided to help. Thanks to this support, we were able to complete the budget.

– I would like to announce that we will participate in the competition this season thanks to the participation of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The talks continued until the last minute. We were in a dramatic situation and decided to withdraw the club from the competition. We turned to the district commander for help, who had already assured us of help. “Fortunately, we were able to cooperate,” the federation’s president, Kamel Gural, said during a press conference.
– The provincial council took an urgent decision. We will purchase the equivalent of various promotional services. Details explained. Immediately after the holiday, we will present the effects of other agreements. It is of an artistic nature. We will support the club in a difficult situation. We do this for several reasons. Unia Tarnów club is an important brand for the whole province. It hurts us that this club will have problems. Motorcycle racing is important not only for Tarnow. Józef Gawron, deputy marshal of the Lesser Poland Governorate, said it was important not to allow this club to survive in all this chaos.
-We are in talks with many companies. I encourage you to cooperate with us, as we offer a wide range of marketing services. We are flexible in this regard – added Federation President Kamel Gural. It's not impossible that a new title sponsor will be acquired soon.
It could have been a dark week for Polish speedway clubs. After all, in the previous days Enea withdrew from sponsoring Polonia Piła and PSŻ Poznań, and club activists from Krakow informed that their team would not participate in the competition.
Thus, six teams will participate in the National Speedway League. In addition to Unia, these will be Ultrapur Start Gniezno, Kolejarz Opole, Polonia Piła, Trans MF Landshut Devils and Optibet Lokomotiv Daugavpils. According to the regulations, teams from Germany and Latvia are denied the right to advance to Metalkas 2.Ekstraliga.
Let us add that the KLŻ competition will be opened on March 30. On this day, Bologna will face Colliers. A day later, there will be a match between Start and Onya, which will be shown on Canal+ Sport 5.
