Sony Cuts Price of PlayStation VR2. It’s No Coincidence

Sony has surprised the market by dramatically slashing the price of its flagship PlayStation VR2 headset. The unprecedented 36% price cut means the device is now available for just £349 on Amazon, or up to £329.99 from Smyths. That’s a huge drop from the original price of £529.99.

The timing of this discount is no coincidence. Sony is preparing to introduce PSVR2 compatibility with PCs next month. On August 7, a special adapter will debut that will allow you to connect the device to your computer.

However, PC gamers’ enthusiasm may be dampened by the fact that some key PSVR2 features, such as HDR, eye tracking, and advanced feedback, will not be available on the PC version. Additionally, users will need to meet certain hardware requirements and have a Steam account.

Eric Lempel, a senior Sony representative, stresses that virtual reality is still part of the developing market. “This is a category that can help us innovate,” Lempel says. He also adds that virtual reality will never be the only way to play games.

This aggressive pricing strategy may indicate that Sony is trying to grow the PSVR2 user base before entering the PC market. However, gamers can only benefit from this situation. The lower price of the headset may encourage many to try VR.
