In recent years, the COTA circuit in Austin has favored Mercedes, which has won all the qualifying sessions for the US Grand Prix in the Formula 1 hybrid era. In addition, the German team has recently gained speed as evidenced by the results of the Russian Grand Prix and the Turkish Grand Prix. The last races of F1 have fallen prey to the stable drivers from Brackley.
First practice Friday before the US Grand Prix showed Mercedes’ dominance over Austin could extend as Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton had almost a second advantage over Max Verstappen.
However, the following session saw a counterattack by Red Bull Racing. Sergio Perez turned out to be the fastest on the track. The Mexican was in luck, because the stewards canceled one of Lewis Hamilton’s laps for going over track limits.

However, the improvement in the pace of the “Red Bulls” will delight fans to grind their teeth at the thought of Verstappen’s duel with Hamilton. However, the Red Bull driver was clearly disappointed on Friday. – Why not… and I’m still driving in the crowd?! The current F1 leader complained over the radio and gave up on a qualifying speed simulation to slip on the pit lane.
Verstappen also fell in love with fans when he met Hamilton on the track. The drivers started fighting each other as in Sunday’s race. “What an idiot,” the Red Bull driver said over the radio. When the Dutchman finally dealt with the Briton, he pointed his middle finger in his direction. This will undoubtedly add flavor to the fight for the F1 Championship.
