On Friday, a wide area of Poland witnessed violent storms accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued warnings for the entire country regarding the storms. There is also an alert from the Government Security Center.

Most incidents were recorded in the following counties: Pomeranian Voivodeship – 363, Western Pomeranian Voivodeship – 195, Mazovia Voivodeship – 184, Kujavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship – 176, and Lodz Voivodeship – 133.
Flooded streets and overturned bikes
As a result of heavy rains, roads in Gdansk were flooded. In some places, strong winds blew away city bikes and construction materials were scattered on the streets.
As a result of strong winds, a shipyard crane that was standing on the pier on Ostrow Island in the Kashubian Channel in Gdańsk fell. No one was injured in this accident.
Flooding occurred in Kościerzyna. Mayor Dawid Jireček said the most difficult situation was on the streets of Szobinskiego and Kowalska. “A lot of water fell in a very short time,” he said.

In West Pomerania, storms caused damage to electricity networks. As reported by the District Crisis Management Center in Szczecin on January 16 in the western part of the province, 5,800 customers were without electricity, especially in Golinho and the surrounding area. In the Koszalin part of the province, nearly 400 families remained without electricity.
– Firefighters worked to pump water from flooded basements and remove windbreaks – said the WCZK duty officer.
The storms also hit the provinces, among other areas, the Masovian province. The storm passed over Warsaw and the surrounding provinces.
