The American CNN has prepared a rating of the most beautiful small cities in Europe, which can boast, for example, architecture or a certain regional culture. It was one of Poland’s fifteen cities. It is located around Tarnow, Lesser Poland.
CNN said that although the city is one of the largest in the south of our country, it has retained its “small town” character. The authors of the list drew particular attention to the local old town with Renaissance houses.
According to the US editorial office, Tarnów resembles Krakow before the mass tourism boom in the latter city. “The Market Square is a wonderful blend of architectural styles. We have a beautiful Gothic church and remnants of Jewish heritage, although this community suffered somewhat during the Second World War” – stated in the justification for the arrangement.
Tarnów finds herself in the company of places like the Dutch city of Giethoorn, where – as in Venice – you can travel by boat. Unlike the mecca of Italian tourism, it is not visited by crowds of tourists.
The list also includes Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. CNN was delighted with the old bridge dating back to the 16th century. It has long been considered “one of the best examples of Islamic architecture in the Balkans,” she said.
The ranking also included: Guimarães (Portugal), Roscoff (France), Anghiari (Italy), Nafplio (Greece), Mazara del Vallo (Italian Sicily), Clovelli (Great Britain), Dinklesbull (Germany), Korčula (Croatia), Kenmar ( Ireland), Piran (Slovenia), Rennes (Norway) and Reginkus (Spain).
