“The cancellation of our concerts in Vienna was devastating. The reason for these cancellations filled me with a new fear and a great sense of guilt, because many people had planned to come to these concerts,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
He thanked the authorities – “Thanks to them we cried about concerts, not for life,” he wrote.
The singer says she waited to speak until the end of the European leg of her Eras tour to prioritize safety.
“I’ll be very clear: If I think I might provoke people who might harm the fans who come to my concerts, I won’t talk about it publicly,” he said.
In the wake of the cancellation, Taylor Swift’s representatives did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The Associated Press and other news outlets, and her social media pages remained inactive.
In such cases, “silence” means keeping calm and waiting for an opportune moment to speak. “My priority was to finish our European tour safely and I can say with great relief that we did,” he added.
The concert’s organizer, Barracuda Music, said it had canceled three Vienna evenings scheduled to begin on August 8 because the plot-related arrests were too close to show time. Authorities said the 19-year-old suspect planned to target spectators outside Ernst Happel Stadium with knives or homemade explosives.
The suspect and another 17-year-old were arrested on August 6, the day before the shows were announced to be cancelled. A third suspect, an 18-year-old, was arrested on August 8.
