You’d have thought Taylor Swift walked through the doors of the Cineplex Odéon Quartier Latin cinema in Montreal on Friday evening, with such excitement at one of the premieres of the popular concert film. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
All it took was a few hints of Taylor Swift on screen and pretty smiles for the audience, mostly made up of a few hundred teenage girls, to get up and dance and sing along to the pop icon.
“I’m so excited, I love Taylor Swift so much! This movie makes me feel like I’m watching her perform!” explains 15-year-old Larian.
In the cinema as in the concert hall
No question about sitting down with your popcorn! Laughing, screaming, clapping: Taylor Swift’s fans, known as the Swifties, made it feel more like being in a concert hall than in a packed theater.
During the screening of the film, each new Taylor Swift song created a buzz of excitement in the room, which vibrated to the sound of the crowd. It felt like we were at a Taylor Swift concert.
It has to be said that this concert film is one of the only opportunities for Quebec fans to see the show Eras TourIt will only stop in Toronto in November 2024.
Sandra, 38, opted to go to the cinema with her daughter Lorelai, 9, instead of paying for concerts scheduled in Toronto. “Tickets are so expensive, they’re gone so fast!”
A model
A word often used to describe the evening’s frenzy star? “Encouraging”. Alice, 23, agrees. “Taylor never stops, she does everything herself. I’m a huge fan!”
“This is a historic moment! She is a powerful woman… an inspiration for generations to come! exclaims 22-year-old Gabrielle.
“He’s been my idol since I was 11 years old. I love the way he writes. He’s a good role model for young people!” confides Melissa, 25.
Around her, young women dressed in homage to the star’s different albums share handmade friendship bracelets. Taylor Swift concerts are a must.
Leah-Rose, 19, emerges from another performance bright-eyed. “It was really amazing! I cried!”
The film released this Thursday only, a day earlier than expected Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Raised $2.8 million. For its opening weekend, revenue estimates range from $100 to $150 million.
A phenomenon to watch out for
After this Taylor Swift concert film, Beyoncé will follow it up with a film about her latest tour, RevivalIt is due out in December.
