“Kaiju no 8” will be a series broadcast on the social media platform X. It will be available in Japanese and English simultaneously. The premiere is scheduled to take place in April 2024.
What is the theme of the series “Kaiju no 8”?
The titular Kaiju are large monsters that have been attacking the population of Japan for years. The Japanese Defense Forces were created to fight them. Childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro pledge to join the unit because their city has been completely destroyed by the kaiju.
Mina succeeds in obtaining a high position, but Kafka fails the exams and is assigned to clean up monster corpses after the battle. One day, a small kaiju flies into his body, thanks to which Kafka gains the ability to transform into a monster that the Defense Forces call Kaiju No. 8. The boy gains superhuman strength and becomes the first monster to escape from the Defense Forces. Eventually, Kafka decides he wants to fight alongside Mina and joins the Defense Forces, keeping his new abilities a secret.
