“The Beekeeper” and “Fuck Mickiewicz” – Barbara Hollander recommends watching movies on the weekend

Such “school” films are produced all over the world. Usually according to a similar pattern: terrible class, disorganized, written off, a new teacher different from everyone else, and finally – after a difficult period of struggle – reconciliation and common victory.

It's similar in “Fuck Mickiewicz”. Dante is a teenager held back by life who lives with nuns. In the Warsaw high school named after him Barry (!) goes to a classroom where the teachers place people like him: difficult, rebellious, dysfunctional, uncontrollable, capable of driving any teacher crazy. Everyone is doomed here. Until the new teacher becomes the classroom teacher. A man who has been turned upside down by life and wants to show these boys and girls that they can win in life. He sees in Dante his sensitivity and extraordinary literary talent.

The film begins with a strong hip-hop beat, and the song “Punt”, which can be heard in the trailers, is performed by rappers Olzakombl and Janusz Vaschuk. As time passes, the pace of the story slows down and changes. Sarah Bustamante-Drozdik conducts the action efficiently, and the characters – students and teachers – have no papers. Almost everyone has their own hidden dramas. The advantage of the film is the acting. As always, excellent Dawid Ogrodnik as teacher, Veronika Ksekiewicz, Joanna Leszowska. Above all, the great Hugo Tarris, who dominates the screen, is real in every version – a jaded scoundrel and a tender boy searching for love. Apart from them, there is a whole group of excellent youngsters: sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds appearing on screen for the first time and playing like professionals.

I'm curious to see if “Fuck Mickiewicz” will be able to reach younger viewers. Or maybe an interesting title would help this movie too?
