A comedy night at Gadino sparked outrage on the Internet after it was discovered that comedian Sonia Belanger appeared on several promotional posters, but this person was not actually the person.
The case was exposed on Sunday by a group of women behind the Instagram page “pasdefillsurlepacing”.
“Insanity like trying not to book a female comedian! We take our hats off to you. Slow Clap”, can read.
On Instagram, many internet users were quick to react, denouncing a ploy aimed at stifling criticism of the lack of women in the “line-ups” of comedy evenings.
Here are some comments written under the “pasdefillsurlepacing” post:
“Okay, but comedians, please, ignore this place. Their ‘joke’ was actually ‘hahaha we’re incels’.
“If they say, ‘Girls aren’t funny,’ they mean, ‘I’m too weak for a girl to be funnier than me.'”
“It’s important to bring back like this! By creating a woman who does not exist, they prove that women are out of place.
“No need to go to their parties. No joke can top this poster of unmitigated stupidity.
Comedians who attended some of the shows where even “Sonia Belanger” appeared confirmed to TVA Nouvelles that they had never seen her. However, the fictional comedian appears in nearly a dozen promotional posters posted on the Facebook page “Thursday Julian Dion and his Friends at the Troquette.”
Contacted by TVA Nouvelles, the organizer of the evening, comedian Julien Dionne did not respond to our request for an interview.
