The artistic director of the opening ceremony, as at the Olympic Games, was Thomas Joly. The athletes’ parade took place on the famous Champs-Élysées, and the main ceremony took place at the Place de la Concorde. The French organizers once again rose to the challenge and the ceremony made the impression it promised. We present you with the highlights of the ceremony in Paris.

Opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games
The ceremony, called “Paradox: From Disagreement to Agreement” “to reflect the struggle that Paralympians have gone through,” began at sunset at the Place de la Concorde.
The ceremony began with a scene featuring French Paralympic swimmer Theo Currin. “I will be a taxi at the Paris 2024 Olympics,” Currin said as he drove a taxi covered in the official mascots of the Paris Games.
“Welcome to Paris!” shouted Corinne. Also appearing at the time were French President Emmanuel Macron and International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons.
Then Canadian pianist Chely Gonzalez began playing on the stunning stage, which featured two groups of dancers. One, according to the organizers, “represented the mainstream of society” and the other “diversity.” A total of 140 dancers played around the pianist.
After the show, it was time for the countdown to the start of the matches, which ended with an impressive fireworks display.
After the fireworks display, French singer Christine and the Queens took to the stage to perform a unique version of Edith Piaf’s “Non, je ne Regrette Rien”. During Christine and the Queens’ show, it was time for a show in the sky by the French Air Force.
Polish Paralympic athletes during the opening ceremony in Paris
About 30 minutes after the opening ceremony began, it was time to introduce the most important thing – the athletes who will dazzle fans around the world until September 8. A little over an hour later, the Polish athletes appeared before the eyes of the assembled crowd.
“We did it! What feelings! Lucina Kornopis and Maciek Libiato are in the lead. For me, it’s magic to walk side by side with this team,” said Michal Paul, press attaché of the Polish team during the Summer Paralympic Games on the X platform.
The last part of the party
The rest of the ceremony took place in the Place de la Concorde. The final stage of the ceremony began with an emotional film that “gives a voice to people with disabilities. It tells the story of their journeys from the initial difficulties in accepting physical changes and/or disabilities, to the newfound pride and self-confidence in their bodies.”
The French flag was then raised over Marseille. After the French national anthem, Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee, spoke.
“In times of increasing conflict and exclusion, let sport unite us,” Parsons began.
The organizers returned to the French Revolution.
– Let sport be a powerful force for good. Eleven days of exciting sport to enjoy together. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to promote your country’s rich diversity and celebrate the best of Paris, France and humanity. “Let’s open our minds wide,” he said at the Place de la Concorde, which was, as the organizers remind us, “the focal point of the French Revolution, and tonight another revolution begins there.”
lighting the olympic flame
Just over three hours after the Paralympic Games opening ceremony began, the Paralympic flame was lit. Many famous athletes and artists have taken part in carrying the flame over the past few days.
Finally, just over three and a half hours after the opening ceremony began, at 11:35 p.m., five Paralympic athletes lit the Olympic flame and the Games officially began. They will continue until September 8. We look forward to getting as many medals as possible for the white and red!
