Boesky became a living symbol of the limitless greed that prevailed on Wall Street in the 1980s. In his book How Bullshit Conquered the World, Francis Wain wrote about Ivan Boesky:
In May 1986, Boesky gave the commencement address at Milken’s alma mater, UC Berkeley Business School. His next words were met with a round of applause: “Greed is okay. I want you to know that. I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself.” Half a year later, he was charged with illegal stock manipulation and insider trading. He eventually ended up in Lompoc Federal Prison in Southern California.
Boxie became an inspiration for Oliver Stone when he wrote the screenplay for his film “Wall Street.” The character of Gordon Gekko, brilliantly played by Michael Douglas, is modeled on Bosque’s character:
“Amateur social media maven. Pop cultureaholic. Troublemaker. Internet evangelist. Typical bacon ninja. Communicator. Zombie aficionado.”
