There is something disturbing happening in the Earth’s inner core. What will happen to our planet?

Previous analyzes have shown this The inner core It rotates faster than the surface of our planet. This piece of land has a radius of 1,250 kilometers, is solid and highly dense. It is believed that the inner core consists mainly of iron and nickel, and its temperature may reach 5430 degrees Celsius, which is approximately equivalent to the temperature recorded on the surface of the sun.

New research provides clear evidence that the inner core began to slow down around 2010 and began moving more slowly than the surface of our planet.. Previous research (including last year’s) has already suggested such a position.

As Professor John Fidel of the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences said: – When I first saw the seismograms showing this change, I was amazed. But when we found twenty other observations pointing to the same pattern, The result was inevitable. The inner heart slowed for the first time in decades. Other scientists have recently argued for similar and different models, but our latest study provides the most convincing details.

To discover this phenomenon, scientists used data from Frequent earthquakesThese are seismic events that occur in the same place, creating identical seismograms. This is a completely different approach than what is usually used in this type of research (seismic waves coming from different places around the world are used).

The conclusions were based on an analysis of 121 repeated earthquakes recorded around the islands South Sandwich Islands (South Atlantic Ocean, near South America and Antarctica). Earthquakes occurred from 1991 to 2023. The data were supplemented with information from Soviet nuclear tests (1971-1974) and from French and American nuclear tests.

According to prof. Vidal, the slowing of the inner core’s rotation may have been a result of this Rotation of the surrounding liquid outer core. This created a magnetic field and attracted denser regions located in the mantle region (above the outer core).

Specialists point out that the effects of the entire process on the Earth’s surface can only be speculation. Slowing down the rotation speed of the inner core can change the length of a day by fractions of a second. Professor Vidal claims: – It is very difficult to notice changes down to a millisecond, which are lost in the noise of the oceans and the turbulent atmosphere. The dance of the inner heart may be more vibrant than we previously thought.

The results of the research were published on June 12, 2024 in a prestigious international scientific journal nature.
