There will be no medal. Poor start for the Poles.

The first medal competitions in shooting at the 2024 Olympic Games kicked off on Saturday, and in the mixed team qualifiers we saw a duo from Poland. However, neither of them reached the top.

Although the Olympic Games are being organized by Paris 2024, not all the competitions will be held in the French capital. On Saturday, Polish athletes began the mixed team competition in the 10-meter air rifle, which is being held at the Chateauroux shooting range.

28 teams took part in the fight for medals. Among them were Julia Piotrowska and Maciej Kowalewicz as well as Anita Stankiewicz and Tomasz Bartnik. The best four teams will qualify for the final round.

The Polish duo started their shooting from the beginning of the second ten. After the first series, Piotrowska and Kovalicz were in 11th place, and our second team was one “point” lower. Anita Stankiewicz and Tomasz Bartnik were in the lead for a while and we hoped that they would be able to stay there longer. Unfortunately, Stankiewicz’s score was 9.6, and Bartnik’s score was 9.7, which significantly worsened the positions of our representatives. It was not possible to make up for the losses later.

In the end, the Stankiewicz and Bartnik duo finished qualifying in 10th place with a score of 626.9, and Julia Piotrovska and Maciej Kowalewicz finished the qualifying round in 23rd place with a score of 623.7. The fourth team to qualify for the bronze medal received a score of 629.7, meaning the Whites and Reds were 2.8 points behind.

The winners were the Chinese – Yuting Huang and Lihao Sheng. These are the world champions from last year. Will the 17-year-old and 19-year-olds withstand the pressure and win the gold medal in the finals? They will fight for victory against the Koreans Jihyun Keum and Ha-Joon Park. Germany (Anna Jansen and Maximilian Ulbrich) and the representatives of Kazakhstan (Alexandra Lee and Islam Satbayev) will compete for the bronze medal.
