This free option significantly improves the sound quality of smartphone calls

Are you tired of those phone conversations that are mundane, garbled and inaudible? However, activate the free option included in your package to enjoy higher sound quality…

Want to make 21st century phone calls with your smartphone? Over the years, telecom operators have offered the option of allowing you to enjoy high definition quality sound for your conversations. Goodbye parasites and other frills that disrupt the good understanding of interlocutors. To do this, they rely on two well-established techniques: VoLTE and VoWifi. Behind these acronyms are two channels through which voice travels.

First, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is nothing but a 4G network used by operators. So mobile phone calls do not use the classic 2G or 3G network. The second, VoWifi, uses the same principle but, this time, calls go through the Wi-Fi network to which the mobile is connected, whether at home or in a hotel or restaurant. In both cases, voice is converted into data packets on the fly to travel over the Internet.

Both VoLTE and VoWifi have only advantages. First, the audio quality of the calls is higher than that made on a standard network. Whether you're using a smartphone's speaker and microphone or a wired or wireless headset, the sound is clear and free of distortion or interference. Then, making a VoLTE or VoWIfi call will not lose internet connection during a conversation unlike traditional calls. So you can search the internet with your smartphone while staying in touch with your correspondent. practice.

The good news is that there is no need to subscribe to a paid option to benefit from VoLTE and VoWifi. If your mobile plan includes a data envelope for internet connection, there is every chance that you can benefit from HD phone calls at no extra cost. Check if the option is active with your operator from your personal location. This is the default in Orange, Bouygues Telecom, SFR. With free, you need to send a special code to activate it on your line. With MVNOs (virtual operators like Auchan Telecom, NRJ Mobile, La Poste Mobile, Prixtel, Reglo Mobile), you have to call frequently to benefit from the customer service they provide.

Note that calls made via VoLTE or VoWifi will not be covered by your mobile data plan. They count as classic calls. Then, you need to use a compatible smartphone and benefit from 4G or WiFi coverage. Most of the current mobiles. Finally, it is important to check on the phone whether the option is enabled in the settings (read our how-to sheet). To ensure that calls go through VoLTE, nothing could be simpler. Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and make a call. If the 4G or LTE icon keeps showing, it's good.

Your correspondent must have VoLTE or VoWifi to take full advantage of High Definition Voice during a call. Otherwise, the sound automatically adjusts to a lower quality. Also, if the connection to the 4G network is lost during the conversation, the call will not be disconnected. The mobile will automatically switch to 2G or 3G network without interruption and return to normal standard. The difference in quality will jump out at you immediately!
