A national funeral for Jean-Pierre Ferland, who died on April 27 at the age of 89, will be held in Montreal on Saturday. The public will also be able to pay their respects during the funeral procession on Friday. Here’s what these two days will look like.

The public will be able to pay their respects to Jean-Pierre Ferland’s family during the funeral service on Friday, May 31, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Foyer Jean-Gascon, Théâtre Maisonneuve. At the Place des Arts.

National Funeral
Hosted by the Quebec government, the national funeral will take place on Saturday 1 at the Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral Basilica in Montreal.There is A number of dignitaries and performers are expected at the ceremony, which will be punctuated by testimonies and several musical performances from June 11.
There are seats reserved for the public inside the cathedral, but there are very few of them. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Saturday, and those wishing to attend the ceremony should present themselves at the checkpoint at Place du Canada, intersection of René-Lévesque and Cathedral.
Outside the cathedral, a large screen located on the Place du Canada will project the ceremony. The site is only accessible from Rue Peel and De La Gauchetière. The public in attendance is invited to wear yellow to commemorate the singer-songwriter’s iconic album.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on major television networks.
Cycle
The quadrangle around Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral Basilica will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
- René-Lévesque between Robert-Borassa and Biel;
- From the cathedral between René-Lévesque and De La Gauchetière;
- Mansfield between René-Lévesque and De La Gauchetière;
- Metcalfe between Rue du Square-Dorchester and René-Lévesque.
