According to Agence France-Presse, this money will be paid to Kiev “before the end of 2024.”
The source quoted by the French Agency explained, “There is an agreement. As is always the case in the G7, the leaders make the decision and then the technicians do their work to ensure that everything is legal and in accordance with the principles of public finance.”
Three-day G7 summit
The three-day G7 summit is scheduled to begin on Thursday in Puglia, southern Italy. The annual meeting of the group’s leaders will focus on the Russian war against Ukraine and the armed conflict in the Middle East.
One of the important issues that requires further decisions is the issue of frozen Russian assets after the Russian attack on Ukraine. At this summit of Heads of State and Government, the G7 finance ministers, who met in Piedmont at the end of May, decided to postpone consideration of options on this issue.
Sources in Brussels said on Tuesday that the European Union expects to reach an agreement in Puglia on using profits from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine.
