Open humanitarian corridors

Earlier on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following a report by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had captured more than 100 Russian soldiers in the Kursk region and had advanced in the area in different directions by 1-2 kilometers since the beginning of the day.

According to Reuters, Russian officials said that nearly 200,000 people have been evacuated since the start of the Ukrainian attack.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said that the authorities plan to open humanitarian corridors between the Sumy and Kursk regions in order to evacuate civilians to Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Emergency in the vicinity

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region bordering the Kursk region, announced on Thursday that a state of emergency had been declared in his region at the federal level. Gladkov said the decision was made at a meeting of the government commission for emergency situations headed by the prime minister.

A day earlier, a state of emergency was imposed at the regional level in the Belgorod region. According to Gladkov, the situation in the region remains “very complex and tense.”

Earlier, a state of emergency was imposed at the federal level in the Kursk region.

The Russian newspaper Kommersant explained earlier that a federal state of emergency is declared when the number of victims exceeds 500 people or when the damage is estimated at more than 500 million rubles. This makes it possible to use forces and resources from all over Russia and receive funding from the federal budget.
