United States of America. Strongest tornado in Rhode Island in 40 years. Destroyed homes and cars, smashed trees

Damaged homes and cars, downed trees and flooded roads are the result of the violent storms that swept across the northeastern part of the United States. The National Weather Service said Rhode Island was hit by the state’s strongest tornado in 37 years.

A powerful tornado passed through several cities in the US state of Rhode Island on Friday. Damage was reported in Jonhston, Scituate, and North Providence.

The recording from the first of these towns shows how a tree fell on a car parked near the house. Landlord Michala Hilario reported seeing various objects flying near her home. I took refuge in the cellar.

The strongest in nearly 40 years

The tornado was rated EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The US National Weather Service (NWS) reported that the winds were blowing at about 185 kilometers per hour.

It was the strongest hurricane to hit Rhode Island since August 7, 1986, the agency said.
