The Polish national volleyball team faces the penultimate match of the third Nations League tournament in the intercontinental stage. On Saturday afternoon in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Nikola Grbic’s players will face Serbia. Live coverage and live score on Polsatsport.pl.
This will be a very important meeting for our coach’s compatriots, because they are still not sure about playing in the Olympic Games. The Serbs are fighting for the last available place with Cuba. In the FIVB ranking, the Balkan team has a better position, but in the VNL table, the North American team is in last place, which allows it to advance to the final tournament of the Nations League in Lodz.
However, the Cubans have played one more match and now have no choice but to face Poland. Thus, the Polish national team can distribute cards in the context of the Olympic ticket. If Serbia loses to our team, it still has a chance to compensate for the loss with a match against Bulgaria, relying on the steadfastness of the European champions and their victory over Cuba on Sunday.

However, the Poles need not worry about the status of the individual teams, as they will compete for first place after the continental stage. This is important because such a scenario would allow the world runner-up to face… Serbia or Cuba in the quarter-finals of the final tournament. Everything indicates that one of these teams will finish in eighth place. In contrast, second place may associate Poles with the ever-dangerous Brazil.
Grbic’s team confidently defeated Argentina on Friday without losing a set and ranks second in the standings, one point behind Slovenia, which leads the group. It should be noted that the ranking is determined first by the number of victories, and the hosts of the competition in Ljubljana have another one. Serbia beat Turkey 3-1 and ranks ninth, two points behind Cuba, which is in eighth place, but with the same number of victories.
The last time Poland competed with Serbia was in the quarter-finals of the European Championships last year. Our volleyball players won with a score of 3:1 and quickly won the gold medal of the tournament.
