The Paris Olympic Games officially concluded on Sunday evening. Most sports fans are slowly turning their attention to football, because the world’s major leagues will start soon. Volleyball fans, in turn, are excited about the performance of the U-20 players, who are doing well in the European Championships in their category. They are held in two countries: Ireland and Bulgaria. The white and red will face each other in the first country. Until Monday evening, the players of the Miłosz Majka team returned to the hotel as winners every time.
On August 12, Polish women competed with the candidates to win a medal made of the most valuable metal. The Italians stood on the other side of the net.The Italian representatives, like the Whites and the Reds, had a perfect balance and were slightly ahead of our compatriots due to the smaller number of lost sets.
The favorites, as the athletes from the Apennine Peninsula were supposed to be called, showed their strength already in the first set. The Polish women were completely helpless for most of the event. The opponents gradually pulled away from them in the score and won the opening by 25:15. The second part was at a much higher level. The White and Reds finally showed their opponents that they wouldn’t give up without a fight and it led to a good game.Unfortunately, this fell into the hands of competitors and became uninteresting.
It was supposed to be a massacre, but then there was an unexpected comeback. There was little left.
Miłosz Majka’s players did not say the last word. At the end of the third set they were leading 20:19. They were then outplayed for a moment, but quickly regained their rhythm and deservedly won at minute 25:23, extending the match for several dozen minutes. The next part of the match ended with the same score. So a handful of fans watched the tiebreak. Unfortunately, this was a one-sided encounter and the Italians won 15:9. Either way, our ladies deserve a big round of applause for putting up an even fight.
We have nothing against a rematch in the grand finale of the event. Both the Polish and Italian women will definitely play in the semi-finals. However, before this can happen, the collective competition must be closed. The Whites and Reds will face the Irish on Tuesday at 9pm.
Poland – Italy 2:3 (15:25, 25:27, 25:23, 25:23, 9:15)
