After Wednesday, the Polish team has already won six medals at the Paris Olympics. Aleksandra Miroslaw won the gold, Klaudia Zwolinska took silver, and bronze went to Iga Swiatek, the fencers, rowers and Aleksandra Kaluka. The volleyball players, as well as boxer Julia Szyremeta, are already certain to finish at least second in the Olympics. That means we will leave Paris with at least eight discs.
The kayaks started the day off well. One is in the semis and the other will be fighting for it.
On Thursday morning, Polish fans could sense the excitement of the Polish kayak start. In the women’s C-1 200m, the first to compete was an athlete who not long ago was not sure she would make it to the Olympics.
– Polish kayaker Dorota Borowska appeared at the last minute at the Olympic Games in Paris. Our athlete was accused of doping, but was eventually acquitted of the charges – as journalist Konrad Verster described it on Sport.pl.
The 28-year-old is a two-time world bronze medalist. She competed in the first of five planned prelims. She won them and with a score of 47.92 reached the semi-finals. This was significant because the first two athletes had advanced so far. By winning her race, Borowska avoided having to participate in the repechage.
The second Polish representative – Katarzyna Szperkiewicz – appeared in the fifth and final preliminary round. The 23-year-old finished fourth with a score of 47.49, which means she will fight for a place in the semi-finals in the quarter-finals. We will find out her status in the afternoon. It is not known which quarter-final she will participate in.
