The last matches of the 1/8 finals will be held today. So far, the candidates have mainly won. The only exception was the match between Corona Kielce and Legia Warsaw. Kelce’s team unexpectedly won after the last play of the match. Piast Glijevic had problems with Karina Jobin for a long time, but in the end he won with a score of 5:2.
Polish Cup: Wisła Kraków qualifies for the quarter-finals. Stal Rzeszow was not there
Thursday’s penultimate match – at 9:00pm Arka Gdynia takes on Lech Poznań – started off perfectly for the home side. Already in the seventh minute, Joko Roman passed from the wing into the penalty area, where Dawid Szot ran between two Stal defenders, scored from the first ball and beat the goalkeeper. Before the end of the first half, Wisła created several good chances to increase the score, but did not convert any of them. Stal Rzeszów fans could only count on a better performance from their players in the second half, who could not even put a shot on target until the end of the first half. This is not surprising, because Marek Zup sent an extremely reserve division into battle.
But after the break, it got worse. In the 50th minute, Baena tackled Semcak and passed the ball to Ángel Rodado, who scored with a header to make the score 2-0. Two minutes later the score was 3-0. Bartosz Talar ran into the penalty area and shot past a defender trying to block him. The shot was not the strongest, but it missed the goalkeeper and went near the left post.
Then it seemed like Staal had no chance of getting back into this match. Only 17-year-old Simon Kudzioka has put hope in the hearts of visiting fans. The Polish youth representative scored a goal in the 66th minute, making the score 1:3, but dreams of a possible equalizer were shattered after just one minute. Stal’s players failed again – Karol Łysiak lost the ball in his own penalty area – and Patrick Gogol, who had been introduced a moment earlier, scored to make it 4-1.
This result has not changed. Wisła won with great confidence and did not really worry about the final result for a moment. Mariusz Job, who is acting temporarily as coach after the resignation of Radoslaw Sobolevski, has had a really successful start as the first coach. The last time Wisła played in the quarter-finals of the Polish Cup was in the 2021/22 season.
Wisła Kraków – Stal Rzeszow 4:1
Dawid Szot 7′, Angel Rodado 50′, Bartosz Talar 52′, Patrick Gogol 67′ – Simon Kadziuka 66′
