Starting today, subscribers of the popular Microsoft subscription can once again get acquainted with the new production of Sony San Diego Studio. This year’s installment of the MLB series The Show made its debut on the service.
Just a few years ago, no one would have thought the situation that the giant from Redmond would team up with MLB to provide the next installments of MLB The Show as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Sony, wanting to develop an IP, had to agree to a contract – the organizers of the most important American baseball league demanded from the producer an increase in the number of target platforms, thanks to which the sports game will appear not only on PlayStation devices. As a result of the new arrangements, the Microsoft (Xbox) and Nintendo (Switch) communities can play the series.
MLB The Show 23 debuted today and has a score of 75 (for Metacritic, the score on Opencritic is 80%) — it’s worth noting that for several years the brand has been getting systematically worse marks. Back in Seasons 16-17, Team Sony could boast an approval rating of around 85%.
Journalists reviewing the new version assure that not much has changed in terms of content, but the developers have improved the gameplay. The biggest novelty seems to be the story mode, but its presence was not enthusiastically received by all reviewers. Interestingly, the studio did not update the rules provided by MLB – most likely, updating the rules would require additional work, which would lead to a possible delay in the release of the game.
