Xbox One is having a major issue. Consoles won’t update and you lose access to Xbox Live

Microsoft definitely needs to take a closer look at the latest signals from gamers and the Digital Foundry report. Older Xbox One models can’t download the update and therefore can’t connect to the servers.

The problem with the first Xbox One models was initially reported by users, and then the problem was examined very carefully by specialists from Digital Foundry. Eurogamer journalists handed over the results of their tests to the Redmond giant when the difficulties turned out to be significant and interfered with the use of the equipment.

If you have an Xbox One in your closet and haven’t updated it recently, you won’t be doing so now. Devices with older firmware cannot download the latest files uploaded to Microsoft’s servers, so the device cannot connect to Xbox Live, cannot download games and essentially becomes an offline-only console.

The issue was not observed on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. – Only early Xbox One models are unable to download firmware, but it seems that the console’s systematic update makes it easier for players to download the latest files provided by the manufacturer.

Digital Foundry attempted to update three Xbox One models (two with a 2017 dashboard, and one from 2018), but unfortunately, the consoles would not download the latest firmware. Despite the efforts of the editorial team—including attempts to download the files via a simple update or using a USB memory stick—the consoles refused to cooperate.

Significant difficulties arise at another point – if you intend to sell the Xbox One and restore the console to factory settings, the next user will not be able to download the update and will essentially lose access to many functions of the device.

Amid growing confusion over Xbox One failure, citizens’ petition gains traction “Stop destroying video games” A call to the European Commission on the practices of manufacturers and publishers towards old games and products. The campaign organizers would like companies to meet this demand. “To leave said video games in a functional (playable) state.”

Tomorrow the collection of signatures for the European citizens’ petition on this matter starts: https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en… It is important that at least 1 million signatures are reached and the thresholds are crossed in a minute. 7 EU countries – only then the European Commission should deal with it. I advise you to spread the word 😉
